Assaria – The Algarve Traditional
Assaria is an Algarvian native pomegranate with pale yellow skin, often showing a pink blush, and beautiful soft pink seeds inside within its arils.
What makes this one stand out is its sweetness. They are particularly soft, making them easy to eat, without the hard seeds you sometimes find in other pomegranates.
The flavour is delicate, naturally sweet and not sharp. It is a lovely one to eat straight from the fruit, sprinkle over salads, use in desserts or simply enjoy by the handful.
It also has a good nutritional profile, containing naturally occurring polyphenols and anthocyanins.
A proper Algarve pomegranate, with plenty of flavour and a character of its own.
When we arrived at Sugar Valley's PB farm, as well as all the orange orchards, we found around 40 Assaria Pomegranate trees that had been also suitably neglected, so we have been working on them also, pruning, fixing their irrigation and nurturing them to bring us delicious fruit, all without a chemical in sight.
